Bank of America Merrill Lynch hired Morgan Stanley Smith Barney advisor David Massey for its Carlsbad, Calif. office. He placed eighth on On Wall Street's top 40 Advisors Under 40 last year.

Morgan Stanley Private Wealth Management has hired Devon Baranski, the former head of wealth management at health care investment bank Leerink Swann, to serve as regional manager for the southwest region for Morgan Stanley. Baranski will be based in Los Angeles and report to U.S. head Doug Ketterer.

HighTower Advisors has hired a three-member MSSB team in Vienna, Va. The team, VWG Wealth Management, includes John Verfurth, Richard Weeks and Jeff Grinspoon, who serve as managing director and partner at HighTower.

UBS Wealth Management Americas has hired MSSB executive Jon Mallon as director and branch manager for its Santa Rosa, Calif. office. Mallon was previously the chief operating officer for MSSB's western division.

UBS has also hired a two-member MSSB team in Tucson, Ariz. They are Matthew Meyer and Christian Stout, who operate under the name Meyer Stout Group. They previously had $1.3 million in annual fees and commissions and $133 million in assets under management.
