Financial advisors Robert Powell, Walter Urban and Tyler Mercer of Alpha Capital Partners have announced a partnership with Raymond James & Associates.

The firm, first acquired by Citigroup, has opened an office in Mount Laurel, N.J., where they are joined by senior registered client service associate Lisa Bergman and marketing associate Wickliffe Hollingshead.

Urban said he saw the opportunity to “anchor” their brand in a new geographic area. “Our team was committed to moving our practice to a smaller, more responsive firm that was not Wall Street-based. We wanted a firm free of the incessant negative headline risk that plagued broker/dealers owned by the larger, multi-national banks,” Urban said in a statement.

Prior to joining forces with Raymond James, the firm worked with Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, earning more than $1.45 million in annual fees and commissions and managing $187 million in client assets.

Powell, who graduated from Kemper Military College and is Alpha Capital’s senior vice president of investments, got his start in the business at Janney Montgomery Scott and brings over 40 years of experience to the table. Urban, vice president of investments, graduated from LaSalle University and began his career with Philadelphia’s Legg Mason. Mercer, also vice president of investments, is a graduate of Western Maryland College who began his career with American Express and has more than 11 years of industry experience.

“We could not ask for a stronger group to open the first RJ&A office in Mount Laurel,” Ira Federer, Raymond James’ eastern division director said.
