MF Global Holdings Ltd. this week appointed David Simons as its new global head of operations where he will oversee the management and strategic development of trade processing and clearing operations.

Before joining the broker-dealer, Simons spent 24 years at Goldman Sachs in a variety of roles and leadership positions. Most recently, Simon was a managing director but he's previously held key positions in the firm's asset management, fixed income and currency and commodities divisions.

"David is an outstanding leader with a deep understanding of the nuances and complexities of the global financial marketplace," COO Bradley Abelow said in a statement. "I have worked with David, observing firsthand how he successfully manages a variety of operational functions. His experience and track record of leadership are a welcome addition to the management team of MF Global as we continue our transition to a full-service investment bank."

MF Global is a leading broker of commodities and listed derivatives and provides trading and hedging solutions as a broker-dealer across all major markets for futures and options, commodities, fixed income, equities and foreign exchange.

Simons will report to Abelow.
