M&T Bank has named two top executives vice chairmen, following the resignation of Vice Chairman Michael Pinto from its board of directors due to a medical condition.
Chief Financial Officer Rene Jones, 49, was named one of the two new vice chairmen. He will also assume responsibility for Wilmington Trust, M&Ts wealth and institutional trust management subsidiary, and for M&Ts treasury division. Jones joined M&T in 1992 and succeeded Pinto as chief financial officer in 2005.
Executive Vice President Kevin Pearson, the other newly appointed vice chairman, will now oversee the banks entire commercial banking line of business. Pearson, 52, joined M&T in 1989, and has been leading the banks New York metropolitan markets since 2002.
In addition, M&T named President Mark Czarnecki, 58, chief operating officer. He assumes added responsibility for the day-to-day management of the company, including coordination of the banks credit, audit and risk division.
Jones, Pearson and Czarnecki continue to report to Robert Wilmers, M&Ts chairman and CEO.
Working side-by-side with the rest of our experienced management team, they will provide sound leadership and guidance as we navigate, not just through Mikes treatment, but through a challenging and dynamic banking environment as well, Wilmer said of Jones, Pearson and Czarnecki.
Pinto joined M&T Bank in 1985. He was named executive vice president and chief financial officer in 1996. In 2003, he was named vice chairman of M&T Bank and elected to the boards of M&T and M&T Bank; in 2005, he was named chairman and CEO of the Mid-Atlantic division of M&T Bank; and in 2007, he was named vice chairman of the board of M&T.
Mike needs to devote time and energy to his treatment, and we support him and his family completely, Wilmers said in a statement.
