Despite the fact that Americans are increasingly traveling abroad, Managing Editor Lorie Konish learns that your clients are still proving to be resistant to putting their money to work there. In "Emerging Attitudes," our cover story, Konish finds this is largely the result of culture, habit and a lack of understanding. She also takes a look at some of the surprising and creative ways that advisors are convincing their clients to find gains overseas.
As much as Americans like traveling internationally, foreign clients are even more enamored with coming to the United Stateswell, at least their money is. In "Bringing International Home," Associate Editor Mason Braswell investigates how and why firms are expanding "internationally" without setting foot outside the United States by managing U.S. assets of foreign nationals. Given the lack of success that even the biggest players have had in establishing a physical presence in the emerging markets, we think this strategy will catch on in a big way. Advisors who gain the proper training and develop a robust client network will profit handsomely from it.
