Barclays Wealth has named Daniel Esslinger to the position of managing director and head of Latin American relationship management and distribution in the Americas.

Esslinger will report to Global Head of Latin America Philippe Sednaoui and Head of Wealth Management for the Americas Steve Houston. Esslinger will be based in Miami.

Esslinger most recently served as head of private banking at Banco Itau SA, and has also held private banking positions at Credit Suisse in Switzerland and UBS in Brazil, Panama and Miami.

The appointment comes after Sednaoui shifted to his current role last year after serving as head of Switzerland, a move that reflected an increased focus on Latin America.

In his new role, Esslinger will focus on that strategy by working with regional managers and investment representatives working with Latin American clients.

Barclays Wealth, the wealth management division of Barclays Bank PLC, provides international banking, private banking, investment management, brokerage and fiduciary services to private and intermediary clients. The firm, with locations in 20 countries, had total client assets of $251 billion as of Sept. 30.
