A former head of private banking at Macquarie Bank joined Barclays as regional manager to help develop strategy in the Los Angeles area.

Jay O'Neil was appointed to develop regional strategy at Barclays' wealth and investment management office in Los Angeles, according to a press release. He will report to Bill Scherr, the managing director and West Coast regional head, the bank said.

O'Neil has been in the industry for about 20 years, according to FINRA's BrokerCheck. He had been with Macquarie for four years and left the firm in October 2013, Barclays said.

Prior to Macquarie, his career includes stops at Merrill Lynch, Credit Suisse and several other firms. During two separate stints at Merrill going back to 2000, he worked as manager of their foreign office, associate director of the North Texas region and market leader for the private banking and investment group in New England and the Mid-Atlantic regions.
