Ameriprise snapped up a former UBS adviser with $261 million in client assets, the regional firm said.

“[Ameriprise] has all the resources and flexibility I need to run my practice and serve clients well.” – Dean Weaver.

Dean Weaver joined the employee channel at Ameriprise and is now part of the firm’s Troy, Michigan, branch, which has 21 advisers and eight support staff, according to a company spokeswoman. Weaver reports to branch manager Chris Ohlert and complex director Mark Feiler.

Weaver says he was enticed by Ameriprise’s supportive culture, both towards its clients and its advisers.

“The people and management are friendly and attentive, and the firm has all of the resources and flexibility I need to run my practice and serve clients well.”

A UBS spokeswoman declined to comment.

The new recruit made the move after a 17-year career at the wirehouse, where he also worked in the Troy area, FINRA BrokerCheck records show. Weaver got his start in the financial services industry with the wirehouse in 1999 and stayed there ever since.

Ameriprise has been on a recruiting hunt this year to attract top talent from its rival firms. Last month, it swept up three advisers with a combined $300M in AUM from Merrill Lynch, Cetera Advisors and SagePoint Financial. In July the firm brought on seven recruits to both its employee and independent channels.
